Kelpi signs Champions of Change Open Letter
Kelpi’s core purpose has always been to tackle plastic pollution on a global scale. We do this daily, through the development of our Kelpi materials that are an alternative to fossil fuel-based plastics, but we acknowledge that alone, we will not have the global impact we are striving to achieve, quick enough.
That’s why Kelpi has joined more than 100 businesses in signing the Champions of Change Open Letter, organised by Greenpeace, Break Free From Plastic, and Plastic Pollution Coalition, calling for governments to agree on:
A cap on plastic production, against a historic baseline, and setting of ambitious annual reduction targets that limit global warming to 1.5 degrees and protect biodiversity.
A phase out of single-use plastics, starting with bans on the worst offending items such as plastic sachets. In addition, highly problematic polymers and chemicals must be eliminated.
Targets for reuse systems to drive uptake at societal scales, that are supported by globally harmonized reuse standards and funding.
A justice focused approach that centres the rights of communities most impacted by plastic pollution and supports a just transition.
Champions of Change is a platform for progressive and ambitious business leaders to use their voices to persuade the world’s governments to negotiate an ambitious Global Plastic Treaty that will cut plastic production for good – and make it easier for companies to do the right thing.
We’re proud to have joined this initiative – there has never been a more crucial time to fight plastic pollution, and we invite other businesses from around the world to become a Champion of Change today!
