Planting for the future

Now that was a fantastic team day. Eight of the team from Kelpi were amongst 20 volunteers planting 500 trees at the start of a new carbon-offsetting forest near Bristol. The Kelpi volunteers broke turf on Acorn - Co-forest’s inaugural project which aims to become a blueprint for future co-foresting teams and projects.

From one of our Board members to two staff who only started at Kelpi this week (and one who doesn’t even start until January) it was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to dig in together, planting mixed native saplings to create the new woodland, which will offset carbon while creating and preserving new ecosystems and habitat, boosting biodiversity and joining up ecological corridors.

Six months ago Kelpi got naming rights over a plot in this forest as the prize for winning the Rising Star award from the Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub. Today, the real reward was being there, spades in hand, at the start of a truly wonderful project – digging in to create a forest legacy.
