Professor Chris Chuck named as top entrepreneur

Kelpi came away a winner at the ‘South West 42 Under 42’ awards last night with CTO and co-founder Prof Chris Chuck recognised as one of the top entrepreneurs in the region. Chris was selected as one of the 42 entrepreneurs leading purposeful startup and scale-up businesses with substantial impact. Additionally, Chris went on to win the Sustainability Award – one of four specialist award categories that were the culmination of the Insider Media Awards event in Bristol.

Under Chris’ leadership, Kelpi is making significant strides in the field of sustainable packaging, addressing the issue of marine plastic pollution by utilizing the unique properties of seaweed to develop compostable, marine-safe, and low-carbon packaging solutions.

The awards recognise the importance of Kelpi's vision to revolutionise the packaging industry by replacing fossil fuel-based plastics with an environmentally friendly alternative. Through the development of seaweed-based functional materials, Kelpi is actively contributing to the reduction of plastic waste and its impact on marine ecosystems. Chris and the team at Kelpi are playing a significant role in driving sustainability and promoting a greener future for the packaging industry.
