Kelpi wins Innovate UK Analysis for Innovators Grant

Kelpi is delighted to announce the successful application of the Analysis for Innovators Grant from Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation. The awarded grant funded innovation project will be carried out in collaboration with the Henry Royce Institute and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) who will contribute with technical expertise and access to their cutting-edge analytical equipment.

Gaining deeper insights into material properties and developing the full physicochemical characterisation of our seaweed-based biomaterials is the goal of this project. This will be delivered through development and utilisation of innovative analytical techniques, as well as use of highly specialised equipment, at the Henry Royce Institute and MHRA.

The grant will enable Kelpi to further boost the development and innovation of novel biomaterials with outstanding barrier performance properties, as well as support our quality assurance. We are grateful for Innovate UK’s support on our mission to mitigate plastic pollution and to bring novel high water barrier biomaterials to market.

Kelpi’s Chief Scientific Officer, Dr. Stefanie Federle, says: “We are truly excited to work on this Analysis for Innovators grant project and solve analytical challenges in collaboration with our partners at the Royce Institute and MHRA. This project will enable Kelpi to expand our scientific knowledge of our biomaterials and accelerate the development and commercialisation of novel seaweed-based biomaterials with outstanding water barrier properties.”
